Q. How & where do pets travel on the plane
A. All pets travel in an IATA standard and airline approved crates. They must have enough room to stand up, turn around and lie down comfortably in the crate. These crates are available in Plastic and wood, attached with water bowl and funnel. Pets travel in a temperature and pressure controlled cabin at the rear of the plane, they have same atmosphere as the passenger cabin.
Q. Can I take my pet in the passenger Cabin or as an excess baggage?
A. You can only take pets in the passenger cabin in some countries; this is not allowed in Australia. Pets can be booked as an excess baggage on some domestic flights within Australia; all pets traveling in and out of Australia can only be booked as manifest cargo.
Q. How long before the flight do the pets need to be at the airport?
A. Usually 90minustes prior to the departure time for domestic flights within Australia and 3hours prior to the departure time for international flights.
Q. Who looks after pets before and during their flight?
A. Pets are kept in the warehouse facility of the airlines usually separate from other cargo to minimize stress. Pets get priority over other flight cargo; they are put on the flight last and taken off first. During their flight no airline staff can access them. In case of long haul flights, during transit pets are checked by airline ground staff and their water bowls are refilled. They are not allowed to come out of their crates due to quarantine regulations. If any pet appears unwell they will be let out of their crates for vet access, this is only as a last resort.
Q. Can my pet have food before and during the flight?
A. We recommend that your pet should not have any food at least 4 hours prior to the flight to avoid travel sickness. There is not food allowed during flights inside the travel crate, they have access to drinking water.
Q. Can we put bedding or toys inside the crate?
A. You can put bedding or toys inside the crate as long as they do not take too much room. Please avoid small toys which can be a choking hazard. Bedding and toys will be removed and destroyed upon arrival according to some countries quarantine regulations.
Q. Can we sedate our pet?
Q. Can we sedate our pet? A. We do not recommend sedation for any pet. Pets must travel in natural state. Sedation can be more stressful for pets when they wake up in a totally new environment and also it makes them dehydrate during their journey.
Q. Can we send collars and leads with our pets?
A. Yes, but collars and leads are not allowed inside the crate, we can only attach them outside the travel crates. Please note; airlines do not take any responsibility if the collars and leads are misplaced.
